What is High risk pregnancy?

A high-risk pregnancy is a pregnancy that involves increased health risks for the mother, unborn baby or both. Health problems that occur before a woman becomes pregnant or during pregnancy may also increase the likelihood for a high-risk pregnancy. These pregnancies need close monitoring and extra care to reduce the chances of complications. In most cases with good care patients have a favorable outcome.
